The Magnolia Flag 1861-94
"Go, Mississippi"
Official State Song
Words and Music by Houston Davis
Verse:States
may sing their songs of praise
With waving flags and hip-hoo-rays,
Let cymbals crash and let bells ring
Cause here's one song I'm proud to sing.
Choruses:
Go, Mississippi, keep rolling along,
Go, Mississippi, you cannot go wrong,
Go, Mississippi, we're singing your song,
M-I-S-S-I-S-S-I-P-P-I
Go, Mississippi, you're on the right track,
Go, Mississippi, and this is a fact,
Go, Mississippi, you'll never look back,
M-I-S-S-I-S-S-I-P-P-I
Go, Mississippi, straight down the line,
Go, Mississippi, ev'rything's fine,
Go, Mississippi, it's your state and mine,
M-I-S-S-I-S-S-I-P-P-I
Go, Mississippi, continue to roll,
Go, Mississippi, the top is the goal,
Go, Mississippi, you'll have and you'll hold,
M-I-S-S-I-S-S-I-P-P-I
Go, Mississippi, get up and go,
Go, Mississippi, let the world know,
That our Mississippi is leading the show,
M-I-S-S-I-S-S-I-P-P-I

CONSERVATIVE LEGISLATORS ELECT LEADERS
The Mississippi Legislative Conservative Coalition (MLCC) met Tuesday at
the Capitol to elect officers for 2001-03. The MLCC is a bipartisan
organization composed of forty-one (41) conservative members of the
Mississippi House of Representatives.
Rep. John L. Moore
(R—Brandon) was elected as the new MLCC President, succeeding outgoing
President Rep. Michael W. Janus (R—Biloxi). “The Coalition is
committed to making a difference for conservative values in the
Mississippi Legislature,” said Moore, a six-year veteran of the House.
“Our job, as an organization, is to continue to press the traditional
and conservative issues that we believe are shared by the vast majority of
Mississippians, but which all too often are ignored by the ‘powers that
be’ in Jackson. We may not always win, but we will insist upon being
heard.”
The MLCC was established a
few years ago as a platform for conservatives to express their views and
positions, to share information among and between conservative House
members, and to influence legislation of interest to Mississippi
conservatives, whether Democrats or Republicans. The Coalition’s formal
policy statement embraces and is structured around four cardinal
conservative principles: Limited Government, Free Enterprise, Individual
Liberties, and Strong Traditional Families.
Also elected as MLCC officers
were Rep. Mike Lott (R—Petal), who will serve as Vice-President; Rep.
Billy Nicholson (D—Little Rock), the new Secretary, and Rep.
Clint Rotenberry (R—Mendenhall), who will be Treasurer. Elected to
serve on the Coalition’s governing Board of Directors were Rep. Gary
Chism (R—Columbus), Rep. Joey Fillingane (R—Sumrall), Rep.
Mark Formby (R—Picayune), Rep. Valeria Robertson (R—Olive
Branch), and Rep. Greg Snowden (R—Meridian). Joining the new
directors on the Board with ex-officio status will be past-President Rep.
Janus.
The MLCC formally will
install its new officers and directors for 2001-03 at its annual banquet
beginning at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening, March 27, at the Mississippi
Sports Hall of Fame and Museum on Lakeland Drive in Jackson.
